Students of the Allied Health Department, College of Health and Sport Sciences, University of Bahrain reviewed the types of medical imaging used in diagnosing types of pathological conditions in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This took place during an event organized by the College’s Diagnostic Radiology Program on the “World Radiology Day”.
The Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Dr. Leena Mohammad Khonji, inaugurated the event at the College’s premises in Salmaniya Medical Complex. The Radiology Day event included several activities, some of which focused on the concept of radiation protection to be followed during medical imaging examinations, and their importance and procedures. Students explained types of medical imaging that are performed to diagnose various pathological conditions, such as general rays, ultrasound, MRI, and other routine examinations performed in hospitals and health centers.
The students also reviewed some of the devices provided in the practical radiology laboratory, including the ultrasound bone density test device, and the quadruple ultrasound device, which is an advanced training device that contributes to the development of practical training efficiency.
This event comes within the framework of the College of Health and Sport Sciences’ endeavor to spread the culture of awareness of medical radiation in the community.
World Radiation Day coincides with the day on which Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen reported the discovery of X-rays in 1895. This event aims to raise more awareness of the importance of radiology and its contribution to providing safe patient care, and to improve understanding of the vital role that radiologists and radiology technicians play in the healthcare institutions.
