The Cultural Committee at the College of Arts, University of Bahrain Announces its Cultural Program

The Cultural and Social Committee of the College of Arts announced its cultural program 2022/2023, under the theme “The College of Arts and the Industry of Knowledge Economy and Cultural Innovation in the 21st Century.”

 

The program, which was launched last month, includes seven cultural and intellectual seminars, the first of which is “Arabic Language and Sustainable Cultural Development: Presenting the Experiences and Projects of Advancement of the Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers as a Model,” was recently organized as part of a symbolic celebration on World Arabic Language Day.

 

The Dean of the College of Arts, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammad Bulileh, lauded the activity of the College’s cultural and social committee. He stressed that the College’s role is not limited teaching and academic effort, as it has always been a vessel for cultural and intellectual development.”

 

Dr. Bulileh called on students to participate in the Committee’s seminars and events, not only to expand their knowledge, but also to benefit from the experiences of professors and thinkers, which would help them build creative scientific personalities, in addition to academic achievement.

 

For her part, the Chairperson of the Cultural and Social Committee at the College of Arts and Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the college, Dr. Dheya Abdullah Al-Kaabi, pointed out that the cultural innovation industry is classified within the knowledge-based economy. She noted that one of the most important roles of universities is generating knowledge through scientific research and spreading it through teaching and transferring knowledge between generations through books, libraries, and forms of electronic publishing.

 

With regard to the objectives of the cultural program, Dr. Al-Kaabi stated that the program seeks to achieve sustainable cultural development through institutional cultural projects, in partnership with academic and cultural institutions inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, including regional and international cultural institutions such as UNESCO, ALECSO, and others.

 

Dr. Al-Kaabi stated that the program focused on the importance of consolidating the College of Arts’ role in the knowledge economy and cultural innovation industry, through reviewing the most prominent projects and pioneering experiences in this field. She also highlighted the importance of working on interdisciplinary studies between the scientific departments of the College of Arts.

 

The Cultural and Social Committee will hold its second symposium on February 15, 2023 under the theme, “Universities and Cultural Innovation in the Arab World: Towards a Roadmap for Sustainable Cultural Development.”

 

Professor of Innovation Science at the Arabian Gulf University, Dr. Afaf Buqawa , and the Head of the Arabic Language and Islamic Studies Department, Associate Professor of Narratives and Modern Literary Criticism, Dr. Dheya Abdullah Al-Kaabi will speak at the symposium, moderated by the Dr. Samar Al-Abayooki, the faculty member in the Department of Mass Communication, Tourism and Arts.

 

The committee is organizing its third symposium on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, which is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the critical and creative achievement of the former Dean of the College of Arts at the university, Prof. Ibrahim Ghuloom.

 

The fourth symposium which will take place on Tuesday March 7, 2023, will discuss “Bahrain Philharmonic Music”. It will be presented by Maestro Dr. Mubarak Najem. The event will be moderated by Associate Professor of Psychology at the College of Arts, Dr. Ahmed Saad Jalal.

 

Several professors from the Department of Social Sciences, as well as researchers from outside the University, shall participate in the fifth symposium. The symposium which will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, titled “Museum Industry: The Creative Heritage Museum” and will be moderated by Dr. Moza Issa Al-Doy, Head of the Social Sciences Department.

 

The sixth symposium titled “Psychology and the Frugal Engineering” will be attended by members of the Department of Psychology at the University of Bahrain on Tuesday, 18 April 2023. It will be moderated by Dr. Shaikha Ahmed Al-Junaid, Head of the Department of Psychology. The final symposium which will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, will host a group of specialized professors in the field of creative writing as a cultural industry, to speak on “Creative Writing and the Culture Industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain”. This symposium will be accompanied by two creative writing workshops in Arabic and English.
