With over 400 participants “Confucius Institute” of University of Bahrain co-organizes Chinese New Year’s Carnival 2023

The Confucius Institute of the University of Bahrain, in collaboration with the Chinese Association of Bahrain, and Dragon City, organized the Chinese New Year’s Carnival to celebrate Spring Day on 22 January 2023. Over 400 participants attended the event, with the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bahrain, Bahrain Polytechnic University, Huawei Bahrain, Dragon City, Boca, Hongqi Auto (represented by Ziani Motors), other social institutions, and a crowd of students and teachers from Bahrain University and Bahrain Polytechnic.
The local Chinese community in Bahrain gathered to welcome the Chinese New Year – for the first time since 2020, as the carnival included a showcase of Chinese companies in Bahrain, Chinese cultural workshops, traditional Chinese recreational sports such as dragon and lion dances, badminton and tai chi, in addition to a Chinese New Year party with a mix of Chinese and Bahraini cultures.
The opening speech was delivered by the President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Liu Qing, in addition to the Vice President of the University of Bahrain and Director of the Confucius Institute from the Bahraini side, Dr. Mohammad Redi Qader, and the Director of the Confucius Institute from the Chinese side, Dr. Zhou Qianwen.
The ceremony was also attended by the Secretary-General of the Chinese Bahraini Society, Xi QingKun, as well as the former Director of the Confucius Institute on the Bahraini side, Prof. Waheeb Essa AlNasser, who shared his story and experience with the Confucius Institute.
In addition to being a celebration of the local Chinese community, the Chinese New Year’s Carnival is also a display of the New China between traditional and contemporary cultures.
