Under the auspices of the President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhaka, UoB is holding a promotional campaign under the slogan: “Discover the Future of Science”, in celebration of the achievements made by the Kingdom of Bahrain through its cooperation with the muon detector experiment at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), which began in 2019, as UoB became a participating member in this experiment.
The event, which will be held at the E-learning Center at UoB on the 14th-15th of February 2023, comes in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), CERN, the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS), the Middle East Synchrotron (SESAME), and Sheikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research.
During the event, UoB is shedding light on its contributions to the largest laboratory in the world, through which scientists have developed the largest and most complex research infrastructure ever, to examine the basic structure of particles that create everything around us.
In addition, the event will provide an opportunity for researchers, faculty members, partners, and students to discuss future projects in which the Kingdom of Bahrain can cooperate with the muon detector experiment, CERN in Switzerland, and SESAME in Jordan.
The first day of the event will present the projects that have been implemented with the muon detector experiment at CERN, while on the second day, scientists will talk about the possibility of using the SESME as a research facility, as the latter provides an opportunity for researchers in the region to work on joint projects.
UoB’s membership in the muon detector experiment at CERN provided the opportunity to build the capacity of several university employees and students, by participating in the implementation of several research projects and developing related projects in the fields of science, engineering and computing. Since 2019, employees and students from UoB have completed two projects, and work teams are currently working on three additional projects, all in the field of engineering and computing. In addition, seven students, mostly from the College of Science, were able to complete their two-month summer internship at CERN.
