A Book Published at the University of Bahrain Sheds Light on Contemporary Applications of Intellectual Property Rights in Bahraini Law

Assistant Professor at the Department of Private Law, College of Law, University of Bahrain, Dr. Hanan Mohammad Al-Mawla, recently published a book titled “Intellectual Property Rights and Their Contemporary Applications in Bahraini Law: A Comparative Study.” The book targets those interested in intellectual property rights in general, and law students in particular.

 

Dr. Al-Mawla explained that the book is divided into two chapters. The first chapter deals with the subject of artistic and literary property (copyright and neighboring rights). The second chapter deals with industrial property (patents, utility models, industrial designs, and trademarks).

 

Dr. Al-Mawla added that the most important characteristic of this book is that it highlights contemporary applications related to intellectual property rights, particularly problems resulting from the technological applications and artificial intelligence, while indicating the latest relevant judicial rulings.

 

The book reviews legal issues related to intellectual property rights from a comparative perspective. It shows the position of the Bahraini legislation on each issue, in comparison with the laws of the GCC countries, and some Arab laws, including the Egyptian and Jordanian laws, as well as the laws in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and France.

 

It is worthy to note that Dr. Al-Mawla, winner of the Best Independent Academic Writer Award – LexisNexis Middle East for 2020. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practices (PCAP) in 2013, a PhD in Intellectual Property from the University of London (UK) in 2013, a Master’s in Intellectual Property from the University of Manchester (UK) in 2008, and a Bachelor’s in law from the University of Bahrain. Her research interests include laws related to modern technology and their relationship to intellectual property law in particular and civil law in general.
