The Head of the Department of Physics at the College of Science at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Hanan Mubarak Al-Buflasa, stressed the need to review the latest advances in the technological development and rapid technical breakthroughs, noting the role of virtual laboratories in improving the education process and facilitating the delivery of scientific material.

The department of Physics at the College of Science, organized a seminar titled “Development and Implementation of the Online Solar Energy Simulation Laboratory and Program”, presented by speakers from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, on Wednesday (April 12, 2023), and attended by a number of faculty members and college students.

For her part, Prof. Sherly Williams, Renewable Energy Specialist at Loughborough University, reviewed her university’s experience in developing solar energy laboratories remotely, and its role in enabling students at all levels of study to conduct photovoltaic experiments from anywhere in the world. Laboratory instruction methods using in-person presence, virtual augmented reality simulation, and remote-control range were demonstrated.

Dr. Alford Chauraya, a faculty member at the University of Loughborough, shared with the audience a number of e-learning tools used by Loughborough University, stressing that one of the advantages of using e-learning methods is to provide a safe environment for practice and experience without serious consequences, and to obtain immediate feedback and guidance.

Dr. Ben Clark, a teacher in Digital Electronics at Loughborough University, also referred to the components of the Digital Electronic Lab, its advantages for students and faculty members, and the method of use.

The participants discussed the advantages of adopting the method of virtual laboratories in addition to in-person laboratories, as it contributes to enhancing the applied aspect of practical courses, enables students to conduct scientific experiments in a safe and inexpensive manner, and shortens time and effort.
