UoB President Receives US Embassy Delegation A University Professor from the US Stresses the Importance of The Creative Writing Program in Developing Language Skills

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, confirmed the University’s keenness to provide curricular and extra-curricular programs and activities that support the development of students’ creative and functional talents, and contribute to refining their skills, to prepare them for the labor market.

This came during the reception of a delegation from the United States Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain by the UoB President, at the University’s headquarters in Sakhir, headed by the Director of the Master’s in Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the College of Charleston, Professor Dr. Brett Lott, on Tuesday, 2 May 2023, to discuss aspects of academic cooperation between the two universities.

Dr. Al-Mudhahka, praised the cooperation with the US Embassy and the College of Charleston in the United States, that has trained a group of university students on creative writing since 2018, referring to several university programs that contribute to discovering students’ talents and developing their creative abilities.

For his part, Prof. Lott was impressed by the students’ efforts and commitment to developing their language skills in various literary arts during the creative writing programs. The Creative Writing Program is offered within the framework of cooperation between UoB, represented by the American Studies Center, and the College of Charleston in Virginia, the United States.

During the meeting, issues of common interest in the scientific and academic fields, and the promotion of educational and training services were discussed.

The meeting was attended by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Graduate Studies, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qader, the Dean of the College of Arts, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Bulaila, the Head of the Department of English Language and Literature, Dr. Ghada Ahmed Jassim, the Assistant Professor at the College of Information Technology, Amal Mohammed Al-Rayes, and the lecturer at the English Language Center, Diane Prieur.

Inaddition, Assistant Public Diplomacy Specialist, Natasha Ben-Kamara, and Grants and Programs Coordinator at the US Embassy in Manama Ali Siwar, attended the meeting, as well as Assistant Professor, Lorne Mark Chambers, and Associate Professor Elsie Ann Lusk, from the College of Charleston Creative Writing Program.
