Interacting with Activities in Bahraini Games UoB Students Interact with The Folkloric Heritage Festival

The ” Folkloric Heritage Festival ” was attended by a remarkable number of students. As the students interacted with various traditional activities and games that were presented by students, on Wednesday (May 3, 2023), in the building of the Department of Physical Education at the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS), under the title “Games from Our Neighborhood”.

The festival was sponsored by the President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs, and it included several sections and booths that dealt with the folk culture, including: traditional costume, henna, hospitality and traditional food, wedding preparations, shops contents, and numerous traditional games that were played by boys and girls from different regions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to displaying pictures and paintings containing landmarks and buildings that are considered as part of the heritage, as well as songs and the performances of the traditional Ardha dance.  The Ardha Association also participated by presenting various types of performances, including: Al-Razif, Al-Zaffa Art, and Al-Ashouri Art.

While Dr. Lina Mohammed Khenji, Dean of CHSS, said: “This festival comes within the initiatives aimed at preserving the Bahraini folklore and passing it on to new generations, in light of the Kingdom’s distinguished position on the map of world culture, and what it possesses of an ancient civilization, historical monuments, and a heritage based on adhering to the values of tolerance and openness to various human civilizations.

For her part, the festival coordinator, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical Education, Dr. Sawsan Haji Taqawi, said: “This event falls within the Department of Physical Education’s objectives, through which we seek to link the student with society and its traditional and cultural heritage, and the festival’s programs provide entertainment alongside folk culture”, explaining that the traditional program was the subject of interaction from the students, as the students worked on coordinating the booths in accordance with the folkloric heritage.
