In a seminar aimed at bringing business leaders and youth together and introducing students to practical practices of how companies in the Gulf region approach ethics topics Dana Abood, Director of the Corporate Governance Program at the Pearl Initiative, emphasized the importance of understanding the differences between values-based ethics, compliance and corporate ethics. She reviewed the consequences of non-compliance, how to identify unethical behavior, and a number of case studies of ethical behavior, ethics and company culture.

The seminar was recently organized by Dr. Naglaa Fathi Al-Desoky, a faculty member and coordinator of the Master’s in Science in Human Resources Management program at the College of Business Administration at the University of Bahrain (UoB), in cooperation with the Pearl Initiative.

The interactive seminar, titled “The Pearl Initiative – Principles of Compliance”, was attended by 377 students from the College of Business Administration, and especially students from the Master’s in Science in Human Resources Management program.

Dr. Al-Desoky expressed her gratitude to the Pearl Initiative team for the fruitful cooperation, noting that the students had the opportunity to link theory and practice, and that it answered their questions related to work ethics, as they prepared apaper on “lessons learned”, to expand their skills in critical analysis.

It is worth noting that the Pearl Initiative was established in 2010 as a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the growing need for good corporate governance practices, and to promoting a culture of accountability and transparency in the private sector in the Gulf region. The initiative highlights the key role played by the private sector in promoting responsible and sustainable growth, based on good corporate governance practices in the Gulf region.
