The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Bulaila, confirmed that art and design students keep pace with technological developments in their artwork and projects, noting that students’ graduation projects in the Bachelor’s in Arts and Design, were characterized by creativity and development, and added an aesthetic and artistic space to the place.

This came during the inauguration of the graduation projects exhibition for students of the art and design programs (Tasami 5) by Dr. Bulaila, on Thursday (May 25, 2023), in the media center at the University’s headquarters in Sakhir. Where Dr. Bulaila expressed his pride in the level of creativity and aesthetics in artistic paintings, and the mastery of graphic design projects, in addition to the quality of writing and designing children’s digital stories.

The exhibition included more than 30 paintings and four graphic projects presented by students as their graduation projects, as well as 14 digital stories designed by students of the digital illustration course.

The Dean of the College of Arts toured the exhibition, during which he listened to students explain the idea, objectives, and uses of each project.

Associate Professor of Multimedia and Graphic Design, Dr. Sama Alawi Al-Hashimi, said, “The Bachelor’s in Arts and Design specialization – which helps students to master the arts of visual communication and artistic expression – is divided into two majors: graphic design and fine arts.”.

Moreover, she added, “The graduation projects exhibition included works in the field of graphic design, and others in the field of fine arts, all of which were distinguished by the use of modern technologies in presentation, in addition to their content, which contributes to achieving the objectives of the course.”.

Dr. Al-Hashemi added that the fifth edition of the “Tasami” exhibition came in cooperation with the “INJAZ” Foundation, which organizes the annual “Company” competition for business establishment, in which university and school students participate.

Furthermore, she said, “Given that the projects of the Bachelor’s in Arts and Design students are of a pioneering nature, they are eligible to enter INJAZ’s “Company” competition, as the students’ projects were supervised by special mentors from the institution, in addition to academic supervision,” noting that “the students engaged in activities on methods to prepare the feasibility study, business plan, and business establishment”.

In addition, Dr. Al-Hashemi stated that this time the projects of art students were also supervised by the artist Khalil Al-Madhoun, President of the Contemporary Art Association, as part of the community partnership between the University and community institutions.

The Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and Graphic Design program consists of 128 credit hours, distributed over a group of general and specialized courses, with a focus on two sub-disciplines: fine arts and graphic design.

The program seeks to enable the student to study, understand, analyze, and criticize the components of the aesthetic environment, and encompass them in his creative, artistic and cultural experience. Additionally, it enhances the student’s abilities to understand visual communication and artistic expression, which practically translates abstract concepts and ideas into various forms of artwork that are innovative and renewed.
