The University of Bahrain Trains its Students in the Arts of Public Speaking and Communication in English

130 male and female students from the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Bahrain were trained in the arts of public speaking and effective communication, through engaging in several activities that would enhance effective communication and public speaking.

 

The Department of English Language and Literature at the College of Arts recently organized an interactive workshop on the art of public speaking, given by trainer Ruqaya Amer, for students of public speaking course. The workshop was held in two sessions, to allow the largest possible number of students to attend.

 

In the workshop, trainer Amer focused on providing participants with the necessary tools for effective and meaningful communication, including the tone, body language, and choosing the appropriate topic.

 

The activities included examining all elements of effective speaking, generating ideas, preparing a structured speech, giving the speech, and differentiating between extemporaneous and prepared speech.

 

For her part, Director of the Department of English Language and Literature, Dr. Ghada Ahmed Jassim, stressed the importance of the public speaking course, which was recently offered as part of the developed plan for the English Language bachelor’s Program, in developing students’ skills in English language and public speaking, in addition to increasing their self-confidence, and overcoming fear of public speaking.
