The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Maliki, stressed the importance of holding periodic conferences and meetings between universities and educational institutions, to develop services, provide facilities, and keep abreast of developments in the field of supporting students with disabilities.

This came in a paper presented by the Dean of Student Affairs on the University of Bahrain’s (UoB) experience with students with disabilities (the aspect of educational services), at the Parliamentary Forum for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination 2023, which was held recently under the auspices of Speaker of Parliament Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, in the Grand Ambassadors Hall in the Diplomat Hotel.

Dr. Al-Maliki mentioned that there are 78 male and female students at UoB with various disabilities, including those with mental disabilities, mobility disabilities, hearing disabilities, visual disabilities, or multiple disabilities, who receive their education in all the University’s colleges

The Dean also pointed out that UoB has activated the (ALLY) feature for people with disabilities in the e-learning management programs “Blackboard”, which is a feature that improves the access of electronic content to students’ curricula in a way that suits the different groups at the University, including the category of people with permanent disabilities such as the deaf and the mute, those with learning difficulties, or those with temporary disabilities, such as students with injured hands, for example, or those who suffer from psychological conditions that prevent them from regular communication, among other cases.

The Parliamentary Forum for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination 2023 aims to assess the reality of national legislation related to people with disabilities, their suitability with international agreements, empowering people with disabilities, activating their participation in comprehensive national development programs, promoting and activating international agreements related to people with disabilities, and strengthening partnership with the private sector to serve this segment of society.
