The Colleges of Science and Information Technology at the University of Bahrain (UoB) completed the discussion of 11 master’s theses for students of the third batch of the master’s program in Big Data Science and Analysis (BDSA), over a period of two consecutive weeks at the end of last month.

Theses varied in their scientific contribution and their coverage of several areas in practical life.

The President of UoB, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, stressed the importance of providing a suitable research environment for postgraduate students, which contributes to the graduation of researchers with specialized skills, enabling them to find solutions to problems and advance the economy, noting the role played by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research in this field.

Dr. Al-Ansari commended the efforts made by the Colleges of Science and Information Technology in offering and managing the master’s program in BDSA, which celebrates the graduation of the third batch of its students, congratulating all students who have completed the requirements of a master’s degree in the program.

For his part, the Dean of the College of Science at the University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mustafa El-Hilo, noted the level of studies presented by the students of the program, pointing to the commencement of the procedures to publish some of the studies in international peer-reviewed journals. “Some of these theses have introduced new methods that provide more effective solutions to real-world problems through big data analysis techniques.” Dr. El-Hilo stated.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Hilo confirmed that this achievement reflects the program’s success, which has gained a good reputation and attracted a large number of students during the past three years, as 23 students graduated from the program from the first and second batches, bringing the total number of graduates to 34 students, praising the efforts of the program’s administrative committee coordinator, Dr. Sawsan Juma Hilal, who supervises it.

Additionally, Dr. El-Hilo pointed out that the studies won the approval of the external examiners in terms of the quality of the submitted work, which reflects the effort exerted by master’s students under the supervision of a distinguished academic staff, and confirms the students’ investment of the knowledge, skills, principles and techniques that they acquired in the program.

For her part, the Dean of the College of Information Technology at the University, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al-Junaid, expressed her pride in the program’s transformation of students’ knowledge, ideas, and innovations into reality.

Dr. Al-Junaid explained the importance of technological innovations and creative skills included in the program, which relies on a unique integration between statistical and mathematical methods on the one hand, and computer science and information technology on the other hand, in addition to focusing on the most important skills required by employers such as: critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.

It is worth noting that the master’s program in BDSA is the first of its kind locally and regionally, and it was the first postgraduate program introduced by UoB in 2018, under the administration of the College of Science and the College of Information Technology, which was accredited by Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom.
