Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the College of Science at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Habib Ibrahim Ashoor, was selected to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Middle East Federation of Medical Physics (MEFOMP), affiliated to the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP), and as head of a specialized committee in the Federation, after the recent elections held by the association.
Dr. Ashoor is the first Bahraini to obtain this membership – which lasts for five years – as he excelled in employing physical sciences in the field of human medicine.
The work of the Publication Committee – chaired by Dr. Ashoor – includes improving medical physics in the region, by providing or supporting appropriate publications, and dissemination of knowledge generated by the organization’s research, education, and professional programs.
Dr. Ashoor, who heads the Bahraini Society for Medical Physics and Bioengineering (BSMPB), expressed his pride in being chosen for this position and said: “I am honored to be part of a cooperation network that brings together specialists in the field of medical physics from 12 Arab countries, and supervises the scientific and academic field in medical physics.”
The Organization consists of medical associations and frameworks in the countries of the Middle East and works to exchange experiences and create community awareness in the field of medical physics. Along with 40 international speakers, Dr. Ashoor participated in the Middle East Medical Physics Conference, which was held in the Sultanate of Oman last month.
It is worth noting that the Federation is a non-governmental and non-profit professional and scientific organization that was established in 2009, and it has a prestigious position in the international community, especially with IOMP, given its active role in supporting and developing the fields of medical physics, and its applications in biology and medicine.
