The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, stressed the importance of continuing the efforts aimed at training the largest possible number of UOB students and academics in advanced scientific centers with the aim of accelerating technology transfer and developing the Bahraini cadre. In this context, two students from UoB were selected for practical training at the Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) – Jordan, during the summer of the current year 2023.

Dr. Fuad Al-Ansari praised the achievements of the two distinguished students who were selected for training at SESAME. He also praised the partnership with the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research in implementing the practical training program at SESAME, which trains students in a scientific and technological environment, to provide them with practical skills in one of the largest scientific and technological centers in the Middle East.

The student from the Department of Computer Engineering at the College of Information Technology, Ali Reda Al-Jufairi, and the student from the Department of Physics at the College of Science, Noor Mohammed Faqihi, are doing their practical training in SESAME Jordan, for a period of two months in the summer of this year 2023.

The Dean of the College of Science at UoB and Chairman of the Committee on Cooperation Projects with CERN, Prof.  Mohammed Mustafa Al-Hilo, visited SESAME to follow up on the two students’ summer training program, as they are the first two students from UoB to be trained in this Center. Cooperation with the Center began through the University’s cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research “CERN”. During his visit, he was briefed on the accelerators and listened to a detailed explanation on the mechanism of electron acceleration and control by officials there.

At the end of the tour with the two students, Dr. Al-Hilo was briefed on their training plan, which was distinguished by their involvement in the projects that are currently taking happening in SESAME Center, to ensure that they acquire the greatest amount of scientific and technological experience, expressing his pride in the success of two students from UoB in training at the International Center. In addition, he stressed that the results confirm the excellence of the educational outcomes of the academic programs at UoB, and the ability of its students to train in international institutions.

The student, Noor Faqihi, stated that the training in ” SESAME ” will allow her to learn about the uses of synchrotron light in various studies to diagnose materials that benefit a number of disciplines such as: chemistry, life sciences, physics, and materials engineering, in addition to attending lectures on the physics of accelerators, magnets, and others.

While the student, Al-Jufairi, said that, through this experience, he is looking forward to gaining experience in the field of practical computing applications, control systems and data processing, in addition to automatic control systems and data collection and analysis using many advanced software tools in a rich educational and research environment.

It is worth noting that “Sesame” is the largest scientific and technological center open to all scientists from the Middle East, as it works to promote scientific, technical and economic development, and aims to advance various scientific research projects, in which materials are diagnosed with high accuracy, using light from the infrared range and up to X-rays, without any damage to the materials that are diagnosed, which is very important when studying rare materials such as antiquities and gemstones.
