The Dean of the College of Law at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Salah Mohammed Ahmed, announced that 36 male and female students have successfully passed the clinical legal program for students of the College of Law who are expected to graduate this semester and the next academic year (2022/2023).
Dr. Ahmed explained that 74 male and female students applied to the program, of whom 44 students fulfilled the requirements and were accepted. The new program was launched in mid-March 2022.
Dr. Ahmed confirmed that the Legal Skills Program for law students aims to provide distinguished legal education and qualify graduates to promote legal work through developing cognitive, legal, and research skills, in line with the needs of the community and the labor market. The new program aims to qualify the students of the College of Law who are expected to graduate soon.
The program included field visits to institutions related to legal work, including the Supreme Judicial Council, Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, Ministry of Interior, the National Institution for Human Rights and law firms.
The program provided workshops for students on topics related to the practical legal aspect, such as legislative drafting, legal interpretation, drafting memoranda, judicial reports, legal advice, practical applications of judicial pleadings, and legal translation. The program also provided workshops on self-development in the world of innovation, communication skills, teamwork, as well as organization and planning for the working life.
Dr. Ahmed stated “The program qualifies the student to obtain a certificate of participation, detailing his participation in the program. This certificate adds to the student’s CV and enables him to engage in the labor market.”
The Legal Clinic and Human Rights Center implements this program every semester. It receives applications from students wishing to join the program at the beginning of each semester. The program is implemented after the end of the first month of the semester to the end of the semester, at times that do not conflict with students’ lectures and exams.
