A Conference Held Next September on the Contributions of Islamic Finance to Sustainable Development UoB Is Preparing to Launch the Third Edition of The Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance Conference

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, noted the prominent effect of Islamic finance as an effective tool in promoting economic, social and environmental sustainability, financing development activities around the world, and the many contributions of Islamic economics and finance in serving the global economy, stressing that entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises have an important role in advancing the economy, as it relies on innovation and creativity to maintain competitiveness.
Dr. Al-Ansari noted the leading position occupied by the Kingdom of Bahrain in Islamic finance, and the efforts made by the national university in providing opportunities for discussion on the characteristics, contributions, practices, and financial, ethical and social directives called for by Islamic economics and finance, which are in the interest of serving sustainable development and social responsibility, to shed light on the current practices of Islamic finance.
As the University will be holding the third edition of the “Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance Conference”, online, on Sunday and Monday 24-25 September 2023, which will be organized by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research at UoB, in cooperation with the College of Business Administration, and with the participation of a number of academics, postgraduate students, and local and international specialists in the field of Islamic banking.
The Conference, which provides a leading interdisciplinary platform, aims to bring together academic researchers, educators, postgraduate students, and practitioners from various international institutions, to discuss how Islamic business and finance contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to present and discuss the latest innovations, trends, and concerns, along with the practical challenges encountered, and the solutions adopted in this field, which have the potential to play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the SDGs.
The International Conference on Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance will include several parallel sessions to present recent developments and applications in the field of Islamic business and finance, as research papers will discuss several topics, including: Islamic business and globalization, Islamic Commercial Jurisprudence, Islamic socially responsible investing (SRI),Islamic Financial Technology (FinTech) Islamic Corporate Governance, Islamic finance system, green finance, financial engineering and its role in risk management in Islamic banking, jurisprudence of Islamic financial transactions, Use of AI in Islamic Banking and Finance, entrepreneurship and small business ownership, Sustainable Development of Islamic Finance, Islamic Accounting Practices and Principles, and Waqf Islamic endowment funds.
The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research noted that the deadline for submitting preliminary research papers will be on Wednesday corresponding to (August 30, 2023), noting that those wishing to participate will receive an acceptance notice of their participation in the Conference on Sunday (September 10, 2023), and the date for submitting ready-to-publish research will be on Wednesday (September 20, 2023), as those interested can submit their research papers through the Conference’s website https://icsibf.uob.edu.bh/.
It is worth noting that the Department of Islamic Banking at the College of Business Administration offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in Islamic banking and finance, and a doctorate in business analysis (specializing in Islamic banking). The Department aims to qualify students in the field of Islamic banking, Islamic financial transactions, and banking law, and prepare them to work in the Islamic financial services sector, relying on a wide range of teachers specialized in Islamic banking sciences, as well as experts in the field of Islamic finance.
