The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, stressed the importance of scientific and artistic competitions in developing students’ skills, stimulating creativity, innovation and compactivity, pointing to the University of Bahrain’s keenness to embrace sober scientific competitions with student involvement.

The University President announced the launch of the second edition of the Bahrain Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence Challenge, an event within a regional program called “Arab Challenge”, in which 13 Arab countries will participate this year, in addition to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Al-Ansari said: “We look forward to our students’ positive participation in this event, similar to the first edition in which one of the university students achieved third place in the competition,” noting the College of Engineering’s efforts in organizing the event that attracts owners of graduation projects and startups.

Dr. Al Ansari added: “The Bahrain IoT and AI Challenge aims to incubate and promote innovative ideas in the fields of IoT, AI and related technology, to enhance the university’s strategic objectives linked to Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.”

The event, expected to be held at the end of September, follows the great success of last year’s first edition, which witnessed the participation of 17 graduation projects and 12 startups.

Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University, said: “The competition encourages university students and startups to participate by submitting high-quality projects that contribute to improving existing industries and driving digital transformation in the region.”

Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim expressed her aspiration to expand the scope of participation and innovation in this second edition, as this year’s edition will include orientation presentations and training workshops during the challenge period to support the participating teams and enhance their capabilities.

Local qualifiers are expected to be held individually for each country, before the final results of the Arab IoT & IT Challenge are announced on the sidelines of GITEX Week in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 16 to 20 October 2023.

The College of Engineering stated that the registration for the challenge will continue until the 10th of September 2023, provided that the finals of the “Bahrain Challenge” will be held on the 27th and 28th of September.

The College of Engineering invited graduate and undergraduate students to participate with their graduation projects, as well as entrepreneurs of start-up projects to apply and participate in the competition, as registration is open. This year, 14 Arab countries are participating in the Arab Challenge: the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Libya and Egypt.

It is worth mentioning that the Arab Challenge competition is being held for the seventh consecutive year with the participation of more than 5,000 participants in 3 main tracks: school students, graduation projects, and startups in the Arab countries.
