Offered In Cooperation with Four Other Colleges at The National University UoB’s College of Law Offers a Master’s Degree in Law and Sports Management

The College of Law at the University of Bahrain (UoB) announced the launch of a master’s program in law and sports management during the first semester of the next academic year 2023/2024, indicating that it will be possible to enroll in the program, which is offered by the College in cooperation with four other colleges at the National University.

The Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Salah Mohammed Ahmed, said that the most important feature in the Master’s in Law and Sports management program is that it provides the enrollees with numerous legal and mathematical knowledge and skills, through the discussion of several theoretical and practical courses, and dealing with concepts and terminology in the field of law and sports management. He also explained that the program’s outputs include providing the graduate with legal and managent skills in the field of sports activities, and knowledge of the rules and regulations governing sports games, in light of the realities and circumstances specific to the sports sector, in a way that enables them to conclude professional sports contracts for players and contracts organizing sports and media activities, guaranteeing the rights of the relevant parties, and resolving issues in the field of sports disputes, whether related to the interpretation, implementation or termination of these contracts, as well as issues related to sports arbitration.

This program is to be launched in cooperation with the colleges of: Business Administration, Health and Sports Sciences, Arts, and Information Technology.

“The new program will enable its graduates to analyze human rights data, legal and economic issues, and related sports disputes, in addition to helping them utilize information and communication technology in solving problems and communicating with others in the human rights and sports fields, not to mention taking responsibility in decision-making in professional and ethical issues and working within one team. “, Dr. Ahmed stated.

The program includes a specialized foundational study of the regulation and issues related to law and sports management, aiming to provide the student with a general and critical overview of the ways in which sports and law interact, through researching legislation and bodies related to sports affairs at the local and international levels.

In addition, the program deals with special topics such as those that govern relationships and contractual and omissive liability within the framework of sports law, so that the student can use his legal information in the field of sports management in an integrated manner, present his ideas, and defend their point of view in an organized scientific manner.

Moreover, the dean indicated that those enrolled in the master’s program in law and sports administration will have to complete compulsory and elective specialized courses that cover the most important aspects of sports disputes, international sports laws, sports media, sports ethics issues, sports management, and information technology investment.

The Dean of the College of Law called on those wishing to join the program to go through the registration process via the website: https://usis.uob.edu.bh/, noting that the submission of application for enrollment is open until the 20th of next August.

Furthermore, he pointed out that one of the conditions for admission to the Master’s in Law and Sports Management program is that the applicant has a bachelor’s degree in law from UoB, or from any recognized university, with a cumulative average of no less than 2:67 out of 4 according to the points system or its equivalent in the other assessment systems, or according to what is set in the postgraduate studies regulation at UoB. If the applicant holds a bachelor’s degree in another major, they must pass the pre-requisite courses approved for admission to the program, which are: Law 404 Introductory to the study of Law, Law 410 Sources of Commitment, and Law 415 Commercial Arbitration.

In addition, he added: For admission to the program, the applicant must pass the written exam and the personal interview according to criteria set by the scientific departments of the College, and the applicant must have a score of at least 5.5 in the IELTS exam or its equivalent.

The program includes 36 credit hours, of which 30 hours are divided into compulsory and elective specialized courses, in addition to 6 hours for the master’s thesis. The student is expected to complete the requirements of the program within a period of two years, but the maximum completion of the master’s requirements, including writing the dissertation, is 8 semesters.

It is worth mentioning that the College of Law offers Master’s in Public Law, Master’s in Private Law, Master’s in Law and Sports Management, PhD in Philosophy in Public Law and PhD in Philosophy in Private Law.
