The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, stated that the College of Engineering has recently worked on developing its postgraduate programs, to keep up with the academic development and advanced research tools in various engineering disciplines.
Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim said the development processes were based on the opinions of partners in the various programs, local and international accreditation bodies, students, and engineering companies and institutions, and keep abreast of scientific and technical developments in engineering sciences.
Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim noted that the updates that were introduced included a PhD program in architecture, and a master’s program in electrical power engineering. In addition, a new master’s program in sustainable energy transition systems, was also introduced.
The dean said, “These programs have been designed to have rich knowledge and high skills in solving problems in creative ways, particularly in the PhD in Architecture. These new programs also emphasize engineering assets and advanced research tools in the master’s program in electrical power engineering, which is a vital sector of electrical power, generation, distribution, and control. It is linked to new developments in energy generation methods, including renewable energy and advanced computing in electric power systems, which did not exist before, such as big data analytics and cloud computing.
She noted that the College is keen to keep abreast of changes in engineering curricula and programs related to engineering professions, and to keep up with developments in engineering sciences in international universities, as well as scientific and technical transformations in engineering and informatics.
In this context, the Dean indicated that the conditions for joining the PhD program in Electrical Engineering have been updated. She referred that, according to this update, which has recently been approved by the University Council, the number of students eligible to enroll in the electrical engineering PhD program has expanded to include master’s holders in several disciplines, including Master’s in Energy and Networks Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Network Security, Computing Patterns, Electronics Systems Engineering, Communications, Cloud Computing, and Big Data.
There are 13 postgraduate programs at the College of Engineering, University of Bahrain. The master’s programs include chemical engineering, civil engineering, engineering management, renewable energy engineering, artificial intelligence systems, electrical power systems engineering, architecture, Communications and Networks Engineering, and Sustainable Energy Transformation Systems. The PhD programs include Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architecture.
