UoB Team Wins the Volleyball Championship at The International Universities Festival

The University of Bahrain (UoB) volleyball team was crowned champion of the International Sports Festival for Universities, which was held in Russia.
On this occasion, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of UoB, stressed that this honorable achievement would not have been achieved without the support and care of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, and the attentiveness of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, towards UoB and the sports sector and encouraging young people to compete in various tournaments. Noting that the University winning the championship is the result of the directives and keenness of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, with the support of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, to enhance the level of sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain and advance it towards internationalism.
Al-Ansari expressed the University’s pride in the students’ achievement, congratulating the members of the University’s academic and administrative bodies on the sporting achievement, which promoted the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain in international sporting forums, expressing his thanks and appreciation for the players outstanding performance, and for the accompanying technical team’s training and supporting efforts.
In addition, Dr. Al-Ansari stated, “This achievement is an addition to the series of many scientific, sporting, and artistic achievements accomplished by the University’s students during their participation in local, regional, and international competitions.”
The organizing committee announced that UoB team was crowned champion in the volleyball competitions, after it won with a brilliant performance over Derzhavin Tambov State University in Russia in the final match, today, Wednesday.
Bahrain Schools & Collegiate Athletic Association had selected the players for the volleyball team that is currently participating in the International Sports Festival for Universities in Russia. The team consisted of 12 players of UoB students, namely: Hassan Nasser Hussain, Ali Abdullah Al-Qayem, Ahmed Sadiq, Abdullah Mohammed Jaafar, Sadiq Marhoon, Hassan Ahmed Mohammed Alaiwi, Hussain Mansoor Ahmed, Hussain Ali Hussain Hassan, Ali Hussain Ahmed, Mahdi Hassan Al-Mughlaq, Hussain Abdulredha Hassan, Ali Mohammed Jawad.
Moreover, UoB’s volleyball team has been participating in the International Universities Sports Festival since 24 August 2023, in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia. The team’s training is supervised by Hussein Khalil, and assistant coach Fuad Abdulwahed from the Security and Safety Department at UoB, in addition to the team’s coach, Hussain Mohammed Al-Ghais, senior sports activities specialist at the Deanship of Student Affairs.
UoB team excelled in all matches, as it won against the Namangan Engineering-Construction Institute from Uzbekistan, the Ural State University of Railway Transport from Russia, and the University of Zimbabwe. In addition, it surpassed the University of China with an outstanding performance and earned the championship after its victory over the Derzhavin Tambov State University in Russia.
The festival aims to enhance communication and exchange experiences between participating universities and other Russian and international universities, and to strengthen global cultural and academic ties.
