A Mobile App that Enables Individuals to Choose a Suitable Travel PackageThem A Team at UoB Designs an Application to Helps Travelers Plan Their Vacations

A student team at the University of Bahrain (UoB) has designed a mobile application that helps save time and effort by providing recommendations to those wishing to travel, helping them plan their vacations within minutes, by simply choosing the travel package that suits them.

The participating student team won third place in the competition and exhibition of graduation projects for students of the College of Information Technology, in the category of projects in the Bachelor’s in Computer Science program, for its project “Rahal for Travel Recommendations,” which was supervised by the Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Faisal Abdulhamid Al-Qaed.

The team consisted of the students: Noor Ahmed Taher, Noor Ali Tarish, and Fatima Adel Al-Ajmi, who developed a recommendation algorithm based on machine learning, to recommend travel packages according to the user’s choices and interests. The application helps the user transact, with the increasing number of travel packages that are compatible with the increased information load, and especially with the difficulty of the travel planning process, by employing machine learning and data science techniques to support the user in the process of making the decision to choose the travel package that best suits the traveler’s needs.

Team member Fatima Al-Ajmi said: “We have developed a travel recommendation system, using the power of machine learning and data analytics, to compare travel trips based on the user’s preferences and previous bookings.” Pointing out that the travel advisor – as a proposed application – will be a powerful tool that can be integrated into any travel website, to solve the problem of information redundancy, and to increase the efficiency of the travel planning process and make it an enjoyable experience for users.

In addition, the application addresses the problem of the diversity of information presented on various websites, which is difficult to navigate and comprehend, in order to make the most appropriate decision related to travel planning, as the application enables the user to overcome this problem, by taking advantage of the recommendations through the customized and diverse travel packages provided by the “Rahal” application, and it facilitates the process of planning and making travel decisions according to the desires of travelers.
