A student from the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain (UoB) designed a food museum, which provides the visitor with an interactive experience introducing the importance of food, and its relationship to humans and their daily life, through a number of halls, which provide an opportunity to experience food from different countries around the world.
The student from the Interior Design Program, Taqwa Shaheed, won second place in the graduation projects exhibit for the past academic year 2022-2023, for her project “The Food Museum,” which was under the supervision of Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr. Fatima Abdulaziz Qaed.
The Student Shaheed stated that she designed the museum so that the visitor can go through a clear journey that satisfies the five senses, remains in the memory, and leaves a positive impact on the visitor. As she set the halls in a line on one side, and the other facilities were set on the opposite side, taking into account several aspects in terms of design, including: controlling natural and artificial lighting inside the museum, in a way that suits the concept of each hall, and the axes of movement and flexibility when moving from one hall to another, so that it becomes a distinct story and journey for the user, and to utilize time and prevent distraction.
She further added that: “Several materials were included in the design of the Food Museum, including wood, gypsum, rubber, especially concrete, and metal, as they are strong and easy to clean.”, pointing to the adoption of flexible and neutral colors.
Moreover, she drew attention to the design of seven diverse halls, including the dining hall, the secret of flavors, food and its connection to celebrations and holidays, the relation between food and feelings, and the concept of home cooking and building relationships, in addition to interactive halls on the relation between food and design, a photography space for users, which contributes to promoting the museum, and live halls such as a food hall. The street food hall, the library hall, Library Hall with different flavors and types of food, and the (Appreciation of Blessings) hall, which enhances human appreciation for food, and calls for sharing this blessing with others.
