Within Its Plans to Establish an SDGs Hub The President of UoB Reviews the Experiences of Educational and Research Institutions in The Cities of Madrid and Barcelona in Achieving SDGs

Within the University of Bahrain’s (UoB) plans to establish the Sustainable Development Goals Hub (SDGs Hub) to contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of UoB, visited the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, to learn about their experience in the field of achieving SDGs, and the role of universities, especially the University of King Juan Carlos (URJC) and the University of Barcelona, within the framework of a partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Dr. Al Ansari stressed the importance of university education in achieving SDGs, through producing scientific and technological knowledge related to the knowledge economy, and universities embracing entrepreneurship that serves cities, in accordance with the  sustainable development requirements.

During the visit, the University President met with the president of URJC, Dr. Javier Ramos, to learn about the University’s experience and discuss ways of cooperation. As the two sides stressed the importance of making a positive impact on society, through education and sustainable development, and confronting global challenges through education and scientific research.

In addition, Dr. Al-Ansari met with the Vice President of the University of Barcelona, Dr. Raul Ramos, who briefed him on the research centers established by the university, especially its famous unit (UB Start), which works as an incubator and center for innovation. They also discussed the university’s experiences in integrating SDGs, its research initiatives, and cooperation opportunities in joint projects.

Dr. Al-Ansari confirmed that the visit represents a step towards strengthening academic ties, multidisciplinary cooperation, cooperation and partnership with academia and industry, stimulating sustainable development initiatives, and exchanging knowledge between UoB and prestigious institutions in the two cities.

The five-day visit included several universities, scientific institutions, and research centers, such as: ISADA University, Barcelona Tech, Barcelona Global, Global Alumni, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the Center for University Studies in Madrid (CEDEU), and the Adventure Center, in which the director of University Media Center, Coordinator of Cooperation with UNDP, Dr. Mazen Mohammed Ali participated.
