The University of Bahrain and Shanghai University Sign a Memorandum of Understanding in Scientific and Cultural Fields

The University of Bahrain and Shanghai University signed a memorandum of cultural understanding to promote collaboration through developing academic programs, student exchange, and joint research in various scientific fields.

 

The memorandum was signed by the President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, and the Vice President of Shanghai University, Ouyang Hua, at the university’s premises in Sakhir.

 

The two parties reviewed the outcomes of collaboration between the two universities, particularly the positive contribution of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain, in enhancing cultural exchange between the two countries. They stressed the need to enhance the exchange of students and faculty members, and research collaboration in disciplines of common interest.

 

Dr. Al Ansari stressed the importance of the Confucius Institute’s role in teaching the Chinese language, and informing its students of Chinese customs, traditions, history, and culture, to strengthen relationships and ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the People’s Republic of China.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the University of Bahrain for Information Technology Services, Administrative & Financial Affairs, Dr. Osama Abdullah Al-Jowder, the Vice President for Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Mohammad Redha Qader, and the Head of the Research and Studies Department, Fadl Ghanem Al-Buainain, as representatives of the University of Bahrain.

 

The ceremony was also attended by Director of the Office of the Confucius Institute, Dr. Jin Zhu, Professor Ning Zhenjiang, Professor Shen Wanqing, Professor Yin Feng, Professor Li Yingjie and Professor Xu Xiaohong, as representatives of Shanghai University,

 

 

 

 

The Chinese delegation visited some of UOB’s colleges and reviewed the educational services and technologies available. The members of the delegation expressed their admiration for the university’s integrated infrastructure and advanced laboratory equipment.

 

The establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain was one of the outcomes of the visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, to the People’s Republic of China in 2013, during which a memorandum of understanding was signed between Hanban (Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing) and the University of Bahrain, to establish a branch of the institute at the University of Bahrain, in collaboration with the University of Shanghai.

 

The Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain was opened on April 15, 2014, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationships between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the People’s Republic of China on April 18, 1989.
