The English Language Center Introduces Its Students to Strategies for Success and Excellence in University Life UoB Students Advise New Students to Rearrange Their Priorities Ahead of Time

Students at the University of Bahrain (UoB) reviewed their experience in the Orientation program, describing it as the first stop for the majority of students who join the National University, and stressing that success and excellence in this stop requires self-reliance, organizing time, and taking the initiative to seek help when needed, in addition to rearranging priorities ahead of time.
The UOB’s English Language center organized an event titled “My Opportunity,” the Orientation program: Skills and A Future, in which more than 300 students from the program participated.
The event hosted four Orientation program students from previous semesters, to present their experiences, the challenges they faced, how they overcame them, and the strategies they adopted to succeed in the program.
Furthermore, the students shared their experiences in managing lectures, preparing for exams, and time-management, and provided advice on adapting to university life, integrating into student activities, and dealing with social pressures, suggesting choosing quiet and comfortable places to study, and taking advantage of the facilities and equipment available on campus.
Among the most prominent pieces of advice given by students are working to adapt to the requirements of university life, being self-reliant, taking the initiative to seek help when needed, setting goals and rearranging priorities ahead of time, and making time for revision in a regular basis.
For her part, Director of the English Language Center, Dr. Dana Abdullah Abdulrahim, indicated that the students interacted greatly with the speakers, as they expressed their admiration for the style of presentation, and shared their opinions with others, stressing the importance of the student taking responsibility and developing themselves at the foundation level, to help them adapt to university life.
In addition, the faculty members at the English Language Center, Ahmed Farooq Ahmed, Rana Jamal Abu Sheikha, and Shamsina Ibrahim, introduced the students to the key skills and university requirements that contribute to developing the students’ self-confidence and discipline, so that they can achieve more success during their educational career.
The lecturers touched on the foundations and rules of university life, and the role of motivation in achieving excellence in personal and professional life, stressing the importance of mastering the English language and its direct impact on academic excellence in various disciplines, in addition to introducing students to the basic elements of academic success.
Moreover, the lecturers called for taking advantage of the services and support provided by the English Language Center to students, especially the Educational Resources Center and student activities, in addition to the importance of sending inquiries through the available means, to obtain the correct information and effective solutions to the difficulties facing the student during their university journey.
By holding the event, the English Language Center aimed to facilitate students’ transition from public education to university life, by introducing them to various administrative and academic services related to students, methods to excel academically, and study-related applications such as the Student Information Management System (SIS) and Blackboard.
