Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), stressed that developing data analysis systems contributes to stimulating sustainable economic growth and addresses the most pressing challenges, which enhances faster and more accurate decision-making and improves performance in economic and industrial businesses, noting that the richness of such data creates advanced research opportunities in many fields, including economics and finance, social sciences, public health, and others.

This came during his opening speech at the fourth edition of the virtual global conference “Data Analytics for Economy and Industry,” organized by UoB, in cooperation with Informs Bahrain International Group, and technically sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Moreover, Al-Ansari pointed out the necessity of continuing to give scientific research its due attention by creating opportunities and providing the appropriate environment and various means of support in a manner commensurate with aspirations and in line with the development and economic visions of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in order to achieve innovative results and solutions in all fields that contribute to the advancement of local, regional and global communities.

For her part, Dr. Athra Sayed Abbas Al-Mosawi, Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at UoB, confirmed that the Deanship seeks to establish further initiatives and activities, in partnership with local and international bodies, to promote innovation through scientific research. Pointing out that the Conference provides a multidisciplinary platform for exchanging knowledge and discussing the latest innovations, trends, challenges and solutions in the broad areas of big data and data analytics that are emerging in all sectors of the economy and industry.

For his part, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Al-Hilo, Dean of the College of Science at UoB, said: “This scientific event is an opportunity to combine efforts that seek to contribute to overcoming challenges, through the cooperation of researchers inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, including graduate students”, adding that the production and dissemination of knowledge, having excellence in basic and applied research, and active community participation, positively affect economic growth and its sustainability.

The College of Science and the College of Information Technology at UoB participated in organizing the Conference, which witnessed a large number of academics and graduate students, in addition to data analytics specialists from inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Shammari, CEO of the Human Capital Management System (HCMS.ai) in the United Arab Emirates, spoke at the Conference, reviewing his experience in activating the full potential of artificial intelligence, as a tool that enhances progress in industries, speaking about the applications of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, such as: the open source version of the “GIS” model, and the Skills Intelligence Platform (HCMS), which is an integrated human capital management system.

As the workshop, “X Sentiment Analysis using Python”, which was presented by Maha Ali Al-Enezi, a graduate of the Master’s program in Big Data Science and Analysis at UoB, dealt with sentiment analysis, which is done by identifying and analyzing data, whether positive, negative, or neutral, through processing natural language and machine learning algorithm. Furthermore, Al-Enezi reviewed the importance of this analysis for decision-makers, as well as in the field of business and economics, and in political analysis, as sentiment analysis allows for analyzing data on a large scale, discovering insights, and automating processes. She further explained the mechanism for collecting and analyzing data in Python, the method of pre-processing data, and the application of machine learning.

While Dr. Sawsan Juma Hilal, Head of the Mathematics Department and Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, presented a summary on Informs Bahrain International Group, membership management, and its activities, and pointed out that “Informs” aims to disseminate educational and technical activities for operations research and administrative sciences, enhance communication, and develop data analytics models and applications for businesses and organizations.

The participants discussed 120 scientific research in several topics, including: data analytics, data science, insurance statistics, artificial intelligence for business and industry, cloud computing, business analysis, data science applications, risk analysis, financial analysis, project management, statistics in information technology industries, energy systems and efficiency, statistical and financial modeling, bioinformatics, and health policy decision making.
