Dr. Amal Mohammed Al-Rayes, Director of the Unit of Teaching Excellence and Leadership at the University of Bahrain, stressed the unit’s keenness to provide faculty members with the competencies of course design and evaluation, and to employ modern teaching methods in the classrooms in higher education.

UTEL recently organized the second week of intensive training workshops for the university’s academic professional development programs, which included six interactive training workshops, presented by eight academics from the unit’s members, and attended by more than 130 academic staff members in the university’s nine colleges.

The workshops dealt with several topics, namely: exam design methods and assessment methods, strategies to enable students to participate effectively and excel academically, ice-breaking activities and building joy for learning in academic success. On the academic side, workshops were held on the topic of plagiarism and copyright in academic work, writing a publishable research paper in education, and harnessing artificial intelligence for academic excellence.

In addition to the training workshops, additional workshops were held for participants in the UTEL unit’s programs, such as the Post Graduate Certificate for Academic Practice Program (PCAP), The Continuous Professional Development Program (CPD), and New to Teaching in Bahrain (NTB) Program, to monitor the progress of the participants’ work and ensure that they successfully and smoothly complete the program requirements.

The UTEL Unit organizes training workshops throughout the academic year, provided by the unit’s team consisting of faculty members, who have obtained a fellowship or Senior fellowship from the British Higher Education Academy.
