UOB celebrates International Day of People of Determination Dr. Al Ansari confirms the sustainability of services and assistance provided to students with disabilities

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, stressed the university’s keenness to maintain the integration of students with disabilities in sports, artistic and cultural activities, in a way that supports their psychological and social adjustment and unlocking their energies and talents, in a way that contributes to achieving the university’s vision, goals, and future aspirations.

Dr. Al-Ansari’s participated in the celebration of the International Day of People with Determination, organized by the College of Health and Sports Sciences on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the university’s headquarters in Sakhir, in the presence of Shaikh Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director of Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF), Director of the Bahrain Deaf Sports Federation.

He said: “The University of Bahrain is keen to celebrate this occasion, and other international and national occasions, as a means of advocacy, education and effective awareness of the rights of people with determination,” expressing his happiness that the University of Bahrain embraces a number of students with special needs, who have determination, resolve, and the will to learn.

Dr. Al-Ansari explained that the university embraces students with special needs at the beginning of each new academic year, from the first day, through the “People with Disabilities Division” at the Deanship of Student Affairs, through the orientation program, students with determination admitted to the university are identified, as well as through communication with the deans of colleges, and they are introduced to the offices of the Division of People with Disabilities, and the services provided by the Division to them.

Dr. Al-Ansari explained that the university, through the “People with Disabilities Division” at the Deanship of Student Affairs, embraces students with special needs at the beginning of each new academic year, from the first day. Students with determination admitted to the university are identified through the orientation program, as well as through communication with the deans of colleges, and then they are introduced to the offices of the Division of People with Disabilities, and its services.

 

 

The University of Bahrain provides several services to help students with special needs overcome difficulties during their university career. It helps students register subjects, provides a car equipped and dedicated to students with determination to take them to and from the university, and provides a small car to transport them between university buildings and facilities. It also finds volunteer students to help students with determination while they are at the university, and during exam periods, and coordinates with the College of Arts to use the Visual Braille laboratory for blind students, in addition to coordinating with the Ministry of Education, to provide sign language teachers.

December 3 of each year marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a world day dedicated by the United Nations since 1992 to support people with disabilities, and to provide commitments based on the World Program of Action (WPA) for persons with disabilities, enacted in 1982, and the Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for persons with disabilities by the United Nations, to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in the world.
