7 Engineering Programs at UoB to Attain International Accreditation Again

The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, confirmed that the Colleges of Engineering and Information Technology at the University will soon renew the accreditation of their engineering programs from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology in the United States of America (ABET).

He pointed out that the College of Engineering, being the largest tributary of engineers in the government engineering sector, is in the process of completing the renewal of the accreditation of six engineering programs, namely: bachelor’s in electrical, electronic, mechanical, chemical, civil, instrumentation and control engineering, while the College of Information Technology will accredit a bachelor’s program in computer engineering.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Ansari explained that the academic accreditation helps the College review its plans and curricula periodically, and enhances the chances of its graduates to find jobs inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to supporting their opportunities to continue their higher studies in various prestigious universities.

Also, he explained that the College of Engineering continues the process of enhancing its programs through the path of local and international academic accreditation, as the diversity of accreditation bodies and the multiplicity of their methods enrich the academic review process and its outputs.

Dr. A-Ansari said: “There is no doubt that this process will increase confidence in the College’s programs, make the development process sustainable, and enable us to obtain feedback, in addition to its support for the orientations of the supervisory educational frameworks and the labor market.”

In the same context, the Dean indicated that the College is preparing renewal files for the accreditation of the bachelor’s in architecture program, as well as the bachelor’s in interior design.

It is worth noting that the College of Engineering offers 24 doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s programs in the College’s five departments, and it has recently launched three new programs, namely, the master’s in communications and networks engineering, the master’s in science in renewable energy, and the master’s in science in artificial intelligence systems.
