UoB Extends Registration Period for Higher Studies Programs

UoB has announced it is extending the registration period for higher studies programs for the first semester of the academic year 2017/2018, until Thursday 31st of August 2017, at the request of many students who were not able to register to date, and expected graduates for this academic year.

Deanship of Admission and Registration invited students who meet the requirements of the higher studies programs to visit the Deanship in the period from 13th of March to 31st of August, to submit the required documents. It is worth noting that the higher studies programs consist of 16 Master and 13 Ph.D. programs at present, hosted by six colleges at the UoB. The announced programs come in light of the changes introduced by the Scientific Research Deanship with an aim of developing higher studies at the level of programs and systems to ensure efficient and qualified outcomes.

Dr. Mohammed Redha Qader, Dean of Scientific Research said: “UoB is planning to introduce a number of new programs that are required by the labor market, and thus will be announced in due course”. He added the Deanship is embarking on a facelift of regulations as well as facilitate relevant procedures for students that are commensurate with academic standards. He also said that UoB now sets a pre-requisite for higher students to register at least three courses per semester as a minimum, and register for the thesis upon completion of the required courses immediately to ensure their graduation on time. He added that students can attain their Master degree in less than three years, and the Ph.D. in less than four years. He underscored the Deanship keen interest in enhancing scientific research capabilities of higher studies students, and thus allocated certain days and themed workshops to train students on the same.

The Deanship of Scientific Research announced that the higher studies programs for the next academic year, are: Master in Business Administration, Master in Communications and Media, Higher Diploma and Master in English, Higher Diploma and Master in Arabic, Master in Mechanical Engineering, Master in Chemical Engineering, Master in Civil Engineering, Master in Engineering Management, Master in Electric Engineering, Master in General Law, Master in Private Law, Master in Mathematics, Master in Environment and Sustainable Development, Master in Nutrition and Nutritional Systems, Master in Applied Physics, and Master in Information Technology.

The Ph.D. programs are confined to three subjects: Ph.D. in General Law, Ph.D. in Private Law, and Ph.D. in Engineering.

The Deanship stipulated a number of conditions to join the above higher studies programs, including that the applicant must hold a bachelor degree or equivalent from an accredited university with a GPA not less than 2.67 out of 4.00 for the Master degrees, and to have a GPA of not less than 3.00 out of 4.00 for the Ph.D. programs. The bachelor degree must be in a subject studied formally to qualify for the degree the student is applying for, and the student should pass all written examinations set by the competent Department to ensure the scientific level. In addition, two academic recommendations should be provided as well as a proof of English language proficiency according to the program parameters. The Deanship noted that all interviews and written tests will be announced at a later stage.

As for Ph.D. students, the Deanship invited applicants to visit the Registration Deanship in Sakhir campus from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm to submit the following required documents: A graduation certificate of the previous degree from a recognised university along with accreditation certificate from the Ministry of Education, the original B.A syllabus (Master for Ph.D. students), a valid passport photocopy, a copy of the CPR or identity card, a certificate attesting English proficiency, two academic recommendation letters, four colour personal photographs, and the application fees of BHD 10.000.

Dr. Qader noted that the Master programs do not require holding a B.A degree in a certain subject. He said “for example: the Master in Communications and Media can be studied by Media students as well as Humanities, legal sciences, linguistics, sociologists and psychologists”. He added: “the same applies to the Master in Nutrition and Nutritional Systems that can be studied by students of the same specialty, chemistry, biology, health sciences, nutritional sciences and technology, and other relevant subjects”.
