UoB Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership Launches its Third Intensive Week: 30 Academics Take Part
Dr. Sana Ahmed Al Mansouri, Director of the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership at the University of Bahrain, said: ‘the Unit has organized its third intensive week programmes intended to focus on the feedback and evaluation processes and novel teaching methods.’
Dr. Al Mansouri explained that ‘The Unit offers several programmes and workshops including, the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Evaluation of Continuing Professional Development, and Evaluation of Higher Education.’
‘The PCAP program started in September 2018. During the third intensive week, participants will be divided into large and small groups to discuss a number of topics. Learning outcomes, feedback process, academic integrity, critical thinking are among the topics to be discussed by the groups,’ she said. Completion of the PCAP program fulfills some requirements for attaining the fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK.
Two worships will be held this week. The first will cover the topic of critical thinking, entitled ‘Are our Students Critical Thinkers?’. The other workshop focuses on encouraging independent thinking through interactive teaching methods.
Dr. Al |Mansouri expressed her delight about the high level of participation, interaction and engagement of the thirty attendees taking part in the Program. She also highlighted the high level of interest by academics in the short workshops organized by the Unit which is indicative of their awareness of the importance of professional development and innovation in higher education teaching methods in the 21st century.
