Al Shehabi Delivers A Talk on Role of Arabic Language at Riyadh International Book Fair

Mr. Ghassan Yousif Al Shehabi, UoB Director of Public Relations, participated in The Riyadh International Book Fair. The University of Bahrain was this year’s Guest of Honor at the book fair.

As part of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities’ programme, the Cultural Council of the book fair organised a seminar entitled “Challenges of the Arabic Language.” Mr. Al Shehabi participated in the seminar with Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at King Saud University Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Hadlaq, Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at King Saud University Dr. Ali Al Mayouf, and the Secretary-General of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Center for Arabic Language Dr. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al Washmi.

Mr. Al Shehabi addressed the importance of the Arabic language and its role in articulating culture and identity among native speakers. He also highlighted the challenges due to globalization, and the role that media and education sectors play in revitalizing and modernizing the Arabic language.

In his lecture, which was attended by a group of Saudi intellectuals and academics, Mr. Al Shehabi said that the Arabic language as an important factor in defining identify, should not be ignored. He stressed the need to intensify efforts to promote the language and make it suitable for modern life.
