University of Bahrain organizes a workshop on the phenomenon of “Energy Poverty” and its repercussions in Europe

DrHananBuflasaDr. Hanan Albuflasa, an assistant professor at Department of Physics, at the University of Bahrain, said that the workshop “Energy Poverty” being held today March 9, 2021, is organized by the University of Bahrain, INZEB, and the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network. The workshop underlined the implications of the increase in energy demand and its production coast on creating a phenomenon of energy poverty in Europe and other regions.

Dr. Albuflasa added that the workshop – organized under the patronage of Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain- aimed to raise awareness regarding energy poverty, and discussed the factors leading to the increase in energy poverty levels -which is a multidimensional global phenomenon in different regions around the world- and presented the EU initiatives aiming to support households and the society in mitigation the social problem.

Three specialized researchers – who participated in the preparation of the book “Energy Poverty” which highlighted the phenomenon in Europe – also lectured in the workshop. They are the managing director of INZEB, an EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network expert, Alice Korovici, and the Assistant Professor at the National Technical University of Athens, Dr. Haris Doukas, and the program coordinator of Ecology at Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Keriyaki Metaxa.
