University of Bahrain Team Wins Research Challenge for the year 2021

The team will represent the Kingdom at regional finals

News08032021 3aThe CFA Society in Bahrain announced that the College of Business Administration team at the University of Bahrain has won the “Research Challenge” at the local level among six teams representing a number of higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, thus the team qualified to participate in the competition at the regional level.

The College of Business Administration team was represented by Hanan Qazi Moosa, Asma Shabir Sanadi, and Mohamed Yusuf Al-Najjar, and the team was supervised by their Industry Mentor Isa Ahmed Al Doseri and their Faculty Advisor Shahed Masaud Mohamed, who guided and supported them through the program with their research case being about Bahrain Aluminum Company (Alba) this year. Aldoseri said that the topic of the research – which the students worked on – yielded very similar results to what was presented by “Alba” in its recent report issued by “SICO”, where students expected the stock market to rise by 38%, while SICO expected an increase of 40%.

Dr. Hatem Masri, the Dean of the College of Business Administration expressed his pride and happiness in the students of the University of Bahrain’s achievement, and commented: “This competition highlights the Association of Financial Analysts’ important role in education, to support the development and invest in education and building up professional investors to be national leaders in the kingdom.”

He added, “I am pleased to express my praise and thanks to the first-place winning team of the University of Bahrain, as I appreciate their responsibility and their utmost efforts to represent the University of Bahrain in an honorable manner.”

Dr. Hana Saeed Bawazir, the head of Economics and Finance department at the college, said, “The annual investment research competitions are a good opportunity for students to train on preparing and submitting research reports on the stock market, as well as help them qualify for the competitions at local, regional, and global levels.”

She added, “I congratulate the team for winning first place and contributing to the utilization of our infrastructure to discover opportunities in the field of investment projects. The competition enabled the participating students to apply practical theory on financial analyzing in accordance with the best international standards and practices with high professionalism.”

It is worth stating that the winners of the local level competitions will qualify for a Gulf competition on the virtual platform, and from there to the regional, then the competition will reach its climax at the global final level.

In the research challenge” last year, 98 countries joined, with more than 6,400 students from more than 1,100 universities.
