UOB’s Business College Participates in INFORMS Discussion Session
In cooperation with the American Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the College of Business at the University of Bahrain (UOB) is going to participate in a remote discussion session on Thursday (20 August 2020), with the participation of a number of specialists in business analysis affairs.
The session aims to introduce the field of research in operations and management sciences, emphasize the importance of strengthening research areas in business analysis, and present all scientific activities in support of scientific research activity provided by INFORMS.
The Dean of the College of Business at UOB, Dr. Hatem Mahmood Al-Masri, stated that “UOB has recently sought supporting the efforts of developing courses and research methods used in the College by launching a number of postgraduate and bachelor’s programs in the fields of “Business Analysisâ€, and in particular in Banking.” Referring to linking the College outputs with the implications of the rapid digital development in the field of finance and business.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Masri indicated that UOB had the honor to send the first research team in the Middle East and Africa through the establishment of an international research group in the field of research in the operations accredited by INFORMS.
It’s worth mentioning that the INFORMS is a professional association based in the United States of America, which was established in 1995 with the merger of the American Research and Operations Association (ORSA) and the Institute of Management Sciences (TIMS). INFORMS has more than 12,500 members and more than 165 branches in the United States and abroad, and it has published 16 peer-reviewed scientific journals, which are ranked among the best journals in the field of research in operations and management sciences. Also, the institute seeks to promote best practices in operations research, management sciences and analysis, and it works towards developing decision-making processes in companies and institutions through decision-making models.
The discussion session is scheduled to take place at 5 PM Bahrain time (10 AM EST), and it will be attended by the Dean of the College of Business, Dr. Hatem Mahmood Al-Masri, Prof. James J. Cochran, Prof. Fuad bin Abdulaziz from the NEOMA Business School in France, Prof. David La Torre from the SKEMA Business School in France, the Retired Director of Industrial Engineering in the United Parcel Services (UPS) Jack Levis, and Vice President of International Activities in INFORMS Sue Merchant.
