In a virtual lecture given by the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Stefano Pettinato, in cooperation with the University of Bahrain (UOB), Pettinato reviewed the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economies of the world and the region and talked about the implications of sustainable development in such societies.

Pettinato spoke on the global developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the effective results in the social and economic fields, in addition to the efforts made to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the Resident Representative of UNDP confirmed that the crisis negatively affected some of the gains made by countries over many years and said that the Sustainable Development Goals remain as a valid framework for monitoring these dynamics and preparing countries’ recovery strategies.

In this context, Pettinato presented examples of the impact of Sustainable Development Goals and emphasized the turning points that the world needs to rethink the post-pandemic in line with the main principles of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It is worth noting that this lecture comes as part of a development program provided by the United Nations to support and develop the University’s capabilities by providing more local and international information, studies, and skills, to build on them and benefit from them in establishing sustainable development values ??and achieving the University’s goals.

Also, UOB had signed a joint cooperation agreement with UNDP last year, 2019, which aims to achieve and promote Sustainable Development Goals, and include these goals in most scientific events such as conferences and seminars held by UOB, in addition to student projects and activities organized by the University, in line with government initiatives and directions.
