Coordination to connect the University of Bahrain Meteorological Station with the Meteorological Management System

In line with the policy of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, and under the support and guidance of the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, as well as to enhance cooperation and promote participation between the research institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the public and private sectors, including ministries, besides reflecting the desire of the University of Bahrain and the Civil Aviation Affairs to establish a cooperative framework for strengthening partnership in meteorology,

the Undersecretary of Civil Aviation Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Thamer Al-Kaabi and the President of the University of Bahrain, Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the academic, research and training activities which serve both parties and which directly benefit the development of the efficiency of scientific research as well as provide graduates suitable for the labor market in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The event was held in the presence of the Director and Heads of Departments of the Meteorological Services at the Civil Aviation Affairs, Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Mohammad El-Hilo, and Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Mohammed Redha Qader.

The two parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the academic, scientific, research and training fields of the faculty of both parties and to support university graduation projects and research projects including minor programs, as well as to provide a training environment in meteorology management for students with related disciplines in relevant departments and colleges in the required disciplines.

The MoU composes a number of items, including participation in the scientific activities organized by each party, exchange of scientific publications and journals, work programs, teaching techniques and methods, exchange of experiences and scientific consultations, as well as the development of a minor program in meteorology within the programs of the Department of Physics, with the decisions of the contents of this minor program to be decided in coordination between them. Other items in the MoU include providing weather data, holding scientific workshops, courses, seminars and forums, whether through the relevant courses or through the various activities of the College, and cooperating in the development of the systems in the Meteorological Department. In addition, the parties agreed to coordinate between them to link to the University of Bahrain Meteorological Station with the Meteorological management system and working on a mechanism for the exchange of information between the parties.

On this occasion, Undersecretary of Civil Aviation Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Thamer Al-Kaabi, expressed his happiness over the MoU signed with the brothers at the University of Bahrain. He noted that this agreement represents a qualitative leap in the field of scientific and academic specialization that serves all competent stakeholders since it creates segments of young people with a broad range of knowledge and experience in the field of weather forecasts. He agreed that this will give them the opportunity to engage side by side with their brothers who preceded them in this field.

Prof. Riyad Yousef Hamzah said, “It is an important opportunity for the University of Bahrain, with its expertise and scientific and research capabilities, to sign an MoU with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications because of its history of monitoring the weather in Bahrain and climate change. Such step will enrich scientific programs, especially because this year the University of Bahrain has offered a new doctoral program on environment, development and sustainability. The establishment of a meteorological station at the University and cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications will undoubtedly have an important impact on providing this and other relevant scientific programs.”
