University of Bahrain joins the elite top 25
University of Bahrain made history last night by recording its highest ever position in the prestigious QS Arab university rankings. This position now cements UOB’s position as a high quality university not just globally but now also joins the list of elite universities in the top 25 list published last night. Addressing all staff and students Prof Riyad Hamzah UOB’s president informed everyone of this significant rise and that this is a wonderful reflection on the university and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The position of 25 seemed unrealistic in 2016 when Prof Riyad Hamzah was appointed president; at that stage UOB was ranked at 42. In the last two years, however since the launch of the universities transformation plan UOB has made great strides in its academic reputation and research output.
The university has introduced almost 20 new programmes , started research projects with some of the world’s best universities and developed partnerships with global entities such as Amazon Web services, National Geographic Learning, Huawei and Microsoft in addition to working with key local partners in both the public and private sectors.
Prof Riyad Hamzah “This highest Arab ranking is a great achievement for UOB and the Kingdom of Bahrain; it reflects the efforts of all staff over the last 2 years. UOB is in the top 5% ranked universities globally makes us truly respected and more than this, our students, graduates and staff are respected around the world.
Our employer reputation is in the top 2% globally meaning that our graduates are considered to be amongst the best and this reflects very well on the Kingdom of Bahrain as we work to attract companies to come to Bahrain to create new jobsâ€.
This year UOB is in the top 10 list of fastest risers on the ranking and the momentum gained in the last two years has seen UOB establish itself as not just the top ranked university in Bahrain but establish an international reputation based on quality education, international partnerships , technology enabled, lifelong learning and dynamic forward thing programmes.
Ashwin Fernandes regional director of QS university rankings says ““ University of Bahrain is one of the highest risers in the 2019 QS Arab rankings and a top 25 position is a testament to the hard work put in and leadership of Prof Riyad Hamzah. In the last 2 years, UOB has made significant progress and we look forward to seeing them continue these efforts in the coming months’.
