UoB Board of Trustees 14th Regular Meeting Decides to Merge Colleges of Physical Education & Health Sciences

Dr. Baqar appointed Dean of Applied Studies & Centres Placed Under College of Arts’ Umbrella

H.E. Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Chairman of the University of Bahrain Board of Trustees, chaired the 14th regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wednesday (13 February 2019).
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa for restructuring the new Board of Trustees, and for his continuous support of the advancement of education. To commemorate the Kingdom’s anniversary of the National Action Charter, Dr. Al Nuaimi congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and HRH Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

Dr. Al Nuaimi acknowledged the efforts and contribution of previous members of the Board of Trustees.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees reviewed UoB annual reports for the academic year (2017-2018). Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain, briefed the attendees on the academic, administrative and financial progress of the University, based on statistical indicators. The report highlighted the unprecedent rankings of UoB at local, regional and international levels.

The Board thanked the University President and faculty and administrative members for their efforts in promoting the University.

Within the framework of review and follow-up of UoB organisational structure, the Board has decided to merge the Colleges of Health Sciences and Physical Education. Several centres have also been placed under the administrative umbrella of the College of Arts.

Since the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) has started conducting organisational restructuring at several government entities, the Board has entrusted UoB to communicate with CSB in this regard.

The Board reviewed a report concerning the establishment of a new campus in Muharraq Governorate. UoB has been charged with reviewing the proposed academic programs and preparing the construction plan for the project.

The Board has made the decision to appoint Dr. Mohammed Baqer as Dean of the College of Applied Studies.

Mr. Ayman Ben Tawfiq Al Moayad, Minister of Youth and Sports; H.E. Mr. Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Zayed, President of the Civil Service Bureau; Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain; H.E. Shaikh Nayef bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Urban Planning and Development Authority; H.E. Dr. Mohamed Mubarak Juma, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Resources and Services; H.E. Dr. Mona Mohammed Al Balooshi, Assistant Secretary General of Evaluation & Accreditation; Sheikha Teflah bint Mohammed Al Khalifa and Dr. Mansour Mohammed Sarhan.
