Dr. Fai Bint Abdullah: Legislation and Increased Investment Are Essential for E-Learning Sustainability

The Director of the E-Learning Center at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Sheikha Fai bint Abdullah Al Khalifa, stressed the importance of working to provide policies and legislation in the service of e-learning, as well as increasing investment in this type of education.

Dr. Fai Al Khalifa stated that “it is necessary to manage change towards planning the future of e-learning, working to create equal opportunities in e-learning, and setting quality standards in it.”

This was during a speech given by the Director of the E-Learning Center at UoB at a remote meeting on Sunday (6 June 2021) representing the Kingdom of Bahrain at the eighteenth meeting of the Committee of E-Learning Officials at Universities and Higher Education Institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

And posed Dr. In the panel discussion, Al Khalifa presented a paper entitled: “E-Learning Leadership after COVID-19: Roles and Responsibilities.”

Dr. Fai Al Khalifa reviewed the most prominent e-learning channels during the past two years, as education in the world was affected by the Corona pandemic, stressing that the sustainability of e-learning requires using educational technology for integrated education, and not for its use in distance education only.

Moreover, the Director of the E-Learning Center stressed the importance of working to provide policies and legislation in the service of e-learning, noting that

Pointing to the importance of increasing spending and investment in this type of learning, with the continuous transformation of the roles of teachers and learners alike, according to developments.

Regarding educational technology trends in the current year 2021, Dr. Fai Al Khalifa stated that there are trends towards increasing the uses of augmented and virtual reality, simulation programs, and strengthening networks, in addition to testing new ways to conduct exams remotely, and using new learning management systems, noting at the same time the high rate of conferences and forums held through advanced video platforms.

The participants in the seminar organized by Princess Nora bint Abdulrahman University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressed the importance of issuing legislation and regulatory frameworks that guarantee the sustainability of e-learning after the end of the Corona virus pandemic, warning against stagnation or going backwards.

Also, they called for maximizing the benefits of e-learning to the education system, and bridging the gaps, primarily, policies and legislation, practical training methods, and ensuring that education parties are provided with a strong and continuous Internet service.

The discussion was joined by Advisor to the National Center for E-Learning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Bandar Abdulwahab Al-Amer, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Director of the Academic Accreditation Commission in the United Arab Emirates Dr. Mohammed Bani Yas, Director of the E-Learning Center at Kuwait University Dr. Etimad Abdulrahman Al-Kandari, Deputy Director of the Center for Education Technologies and Educational Development at Sultan Qaboos University Salem bin Jaber Al-Waeli, and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Qatar University Prof. Dr. Somaiya Ali Al-Ma’adheed, along with Dr. Fai Al Khalifa, and Prof. Dr. Afnan Abdul Rahman Al-Obaid who moderated the session.
