UoB Students Win First and Third Places in the Huawei Competition
The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, congratulated the students from the College of Information Technology at the University for winning the Huawei ICT competition at the national level.
The President of the University stated: ” Our students have always proven their worth and precedence in this important global competition, and they have already achieved advanced global positions in the past years,” noting that an important aspect of this victory is due to the internationally accredited study programs, and the quality of the teaching and learning process at the University’s College of Information Technology.
UoB students won two of the first three places qualifying for the Middle East competition, as Farhan Ahmed (University of Bahrain), Ali Fayez Mirza (Bahrain Polytechnic) won the second place, and Mohammed Yusha’a Mohammed (University of Bahrain) won the third place.
On her part, the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Lamya Mohammed Al-Jasmi, expressed her happiness on the achievement and said: “The College is proud of all its students, especially those who participate in tournaments and competitions” as they increase the student’s knowledge, puts him on the line of market requirements, and opens up horizons for him, in addition to having a broader network of relationships with his colleagues from various countries and institutions working in his fields of study.”.
The supervisor of the student team, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Qaddumi, Assistant Professor at the College of Information Technology at UoB, explained that Huawei Bahrain started remote meetings with students since the beginning of last October, as about 20 students from various universities in the Kingdom applied, 11 of whom were qualified for the exams conducted by the Company, and seven of the finalists were from UoB.
Furthermore, he added that the finalists entered an intensive training course and had access to Huawei’s information sources to benefit from them, then the competition was conducted at the national level on the 10th of December 2020 on a number of main topics, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, networks, and storage, which resulted in the three students’ victory.
Also, Dr. Qaddumi said that this competition is one of three competitions, “As the Bahrain team will consist of the three winning students to enter the competition at the level of the Middle East, and if they succeed in it, they will qualify for the final competitions held in the People’s Republic of China at the global level.”
The students of UoB were part of the Kingdom of Bahrain team that achieved honorable results at the global level in the Huawei ICT competition, as the team achieved third place globally in 2019 and achieved the same position in 2017.
