Students Of The “Legal Clinic” At UoB Discuss “Sports Law” 

In cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council, the Supreme Council for Women, the Parliament Secretariat, the Ministry of Interior, the National Institution for Human Rights, and the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, nearly 19 students at the College of Law at the University of Bahrain (UoB) started clinical training within the “Legal Clinic and Human Rights” course (LAW408). 

Students in these bodies get trained on human rights, legislative and legal work, through virtual communication and field presence, while adhering to precautionary measures. 

It is scheduled for students to discuss the topic of “Sports Law”, which is the topic of their final project, as research on this topic is considered one of the legal developments in the sports arena and reflects great interest from all members of society and its institutions, as it is a natural reflection of everyone’s interest in sports fields of all kinds. 

The Acting Dean of the College of Law at UoB, Dr. Salah Mohammed Ahmed Diab, announced that the Legal Clinic and Human Rights Center began conducting clinical training programs in the second semester of the current academic year 2020/2021, and it will continue until the end of May 2021. 

Also, Dr. Salah Diab stated that “The students participating in the clinic’s course underwent an induction program within a series of workshops that included introducing the art and principles of preparing legislation following clinical education and the methodology of scientific research and human rights reports, which was delivered by Dr. Noora Mohammed Al-Shamlan, in addition to a lecture presented by Dr. Abduljabbar Al-Tayeb on the methodology of preparing human rights reports, and a lecture by Dr. Al-Haitham Omar Salim on judicial rulings commentary. 

In this context, the Legal Clinic and Human Rights Center hosted the Bahraini international referee Nawaf Shukrallah on the MS Teams platform on Monday (22 February 2021) in a lecture entitled “Sports Law and Anti-Doping” for two hours, in which he discussed the legal aspects of sports contracts, and ways to combat anti-doping in the sports field. 

It is worth mentioning that the legal clinic course project was launched in 2013 and aims to serve the community and raise its awareness in the legal and human rights aspects, and increase practical training for the students at the College of Law, to allow them to engage in practical life, and to qualify them for the labor market in all professionalism.
