In its 3rd Edition, UoB Concludes the Events of the First Week of Big Data in Partnership with Liverpool John Moores University

On Thursday February 3, 2022, the University of Bahrain concluded the events of the first week of big data for the academic year (2021-2022) in its third edition, as part of the activities of MSC in Big Data Analytics introduced by the College of Science and the College of Information Technology, in partnership with Liverpool John Morris University in the United Kingdom, as the first program of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The events of the week were inaugurated by the Dean of the College of Science and the Acting Dean of the College of Health and Sports Sciences, Prof. Mohammad Mustafa Al-Helou. Prof Al-Helou gave a speech in which he stated that he is proud of the existing collaboration between the University of Bahrain and Liverpool John Moores University for the third consecutive year. He stressed the great and remarkable demand for the program, pointing to the large amount of skills and knowledge students acquire in the field of data science through this program.

Prof. Al-Helou lauded the effort exerted by the Administrative Committee of the Program under the direction of the Program Coordinator Dr. Sawsan Juma’a Hilal Assistant Professor at the Mathematics Department, College of Science, University of Bahrain. He stressed that this significantly reflected on the program accomplishments, including publishing students’ research and their diverse and effective participation in the scientific events and conferences.

On the first day of the event, the Head of Data Science Research Center at Liverpool John Morris University, Dr. Ian Jarman, gave a lecture entitled “Exploring musical elements through machine learning”, during which he spoke about the use of machine science and visualization tools to find out musical elements.

On the second day of the event, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics, Liverpool John Moores University, Dr. Sandra Ortega, presented a workshop entitled: “Dealing with Semi-Structured Data”, which focused on dealing with unstructured and streaming data.

It is noteworthy that the activities of the Big Data Week lasted for four consecutive days, on Microsoft Teams platform, as they started on Monday January 31, 2022, and concluded with presentation of the projects of the third batch of Master’s students in Big Data Analytics.
