The President of the University of Bahrain Discusses with the Royal Court Advisor Developing and Enhancing Wildlife in UoB

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, stressed that UoB is interested in preserving and developing wildlife because of its importance to the preservation and sustainability of the environment.

Al-Mudhahki made this statement during her meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Royal Court Advisor, on Wednesday March 23, 2022, to review aspects of cooperation between UoB and wildlife agencies in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. AlMudhaki stated that there are 70,000 trees and shrubs on a total area of 315,000 square meters of cultivated area in the three campuses of UoB. The biggest cultivated area of which is in the main headquarters in Sakhir (298,000 square meters), seeming like an oasis in the middle of the desert, frequented by migratory birds. It contains many types of wildlife, making it a rich scientific material for researchers in life sciences at the university.

Dr. AlMudhaki added that UoB enhanced its interest in afforestation a few weeks ago through the “Bahrain Fruit Garden” project within the framework of the national campaign “Forever Green”, launched by the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector through a national campaign for afforestation, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King, Chairperson of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Development of the Agricultural Sector, may God bless Her.

For his part, the Royal Court Advisor, His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, lauded the efforts exerted by the University of Bahrain to preserve wildlife and its environment, calling for national institutions and agencies to follow the example of UoB in paying sufficient attention to the wild environment as this affects life and its quality on Earth. His Excellency stressed the importance of collaboration with the university in all fields to preserve the environment and wildlife, and to conduct scientific research related to it, given the central importance of the environment to the quality of life.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Mohammad Mustafa Al-Helou.
