The College of Arts at the University of Bahrain (UoB) received the International Accreditation Certificate from the British Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC), by achieving the highest rating, which is the Premier Institution, after meeting all approved quality and evaluation standards.
The President of UoB, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, congratulated the Dean, professors and affiliates of the College, and stated: “The College of Arts is one of the prestigious colleges at the University of Bahrain, as it graduated leaders, innovators and specialists for decades, and it is worthy of achieving this outstanding accomplishment”, stressing that “The College’s future promises further achievements and the provision of quality programs after obtaining the highest level of accreditation from the ASIC, which unifies efforts according to a specific scientific system and framework.”
The College of Arts is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the University, with its roots dating back to the year 1978, when the University College of Sciences, Arts and Education was established.
As the President of the University revealed that the College had received academic accreditation in a meeting held recently with members of the academic and administrative bodies of the College, aimed at discussing the College’s plans and future paths, noting the growing standing that the College is gaining in view of its roles in preserving cultural and national identities, and upgrading the intellectual system.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Mudhahki stressed that the importance of the College of Arts obtaining international accreditation goes beyond its compatibility with modern trends and international requirements, leading to opening new horizons, offering participatory programs with prestigious colleges, and concluding agreements in various academic dimensions, noting that this would make a qualitative leap in the academic programs.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Arts at the University, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Bulaila, indicated that the classification of ASIC in its highest rank came after ensuring that all requirements and conditions for accreditation were met, represented in the fulfillment of six axes: learning and education, quality assurance and academic development, the quality of attention and care for students, safety of educational buildings and facilities, health and safety, governance and management, human resources, certificates awarded and educational qualifications, pointing out that the review processes continued for several months, and included a field visit to the College’s campus, where the delegation of the Service met with all concerned parties.
Furthermore, the Dean stated that “This achievement is the first of its kind at the level of the College of Arts, and it paves the fertile ground for the development of the College’s programs and the introduction of new programs at the master’s and doctoral levels, and some of them may be in cooperation with prestigious international universities,” stressing that this will only be achieved ” by linking the educational outputs to the College with the requirements of the local and global labor market and to provide graduates with skills that are suitable for the twenty-first century, so that the graduates of the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain become the first and best choice for employers, as this is one of the most important strategic goals of the College of Arts for the next stage.”
On the benefits of receiving this international academic accreditation, Dr. Bulaila, stated that: “There is no doubt that this achievement will have positive repercussions, as achieving international quality standards gives us the opportunity to increase partnerships, through signing agreements and memoranda of understanding with prestigious universities and colleges, and cooperating with them in carrying out research, exchanging professors and students, and holding conferences and scientific forums,” stressing that “All of this is reflected in the mental image of the College and University, and its reputation in the academic community.”
It is worth noting that the College of Arts offers 12 academic programs at the undergraduate (bachelor’s) level and postgraduate levels (higher diploma and master’s) through five academic departments: Arabic and Islamic studies, English language and literature, social sciences, media, tourism and arts, and psychology.
Also, the Dean of the College expressed his pleasure with the achievement, which enhances the College’s long-standing march and its pivotal role, pointing out that the College of Arts is the second largest college in the University in terms of the number of students, with about 5,500 male and female students, and the College’s professors’ teaching about 33% of the University’s courses, considering university courses related to humanities, such as languages, culture, history, identity, and citizenship.
Moreover, the Director of the Office of Quality and Academic Accreditation at the College of Arts, Dr. Amani Sayed Musa Al-Halwaji, indicated that ASIC, which granted the college its international accreditation, is an independent intergovernmental agency for academic accreditation, affiliated with the Ministry of Education in the United Kingdom.
Al-Halwaji pointed out that the Service is also a member of the British Quality Foundation (BQF), a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), which is the highest university accreditation body in Europe, aiming to monitor ministries of education and accreditation bodies in Europe, and a member of the (CHEA) group, which is the highest accreditation body in the United States of America, noting that all of this confirms the reliability and credibility of the rating obtained by the College, and its status in the academic community.
