On Tuesday (April 26, 2022) the President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, received the son of the late Prof. Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Shubbar, Ali Shubbar, at the University’s headquarters, where he presented a copy of a book documenting the biography of his father entitled: “Professor Khalil Shubbar. The Chemistry of Giving”.
Dr. Al-Mudhahki commended the effort that was made to document the biography of the late Prof. Shubbar, to highlight the luminous stations in his personal, scientific and practical life, and his struggle and self-sacrifice, noting that it is a gesture and a step in the way of children honoring their father after his departure.
For his part, Ali Khalil Shubbar pointed to the participation of more than 70 academic and educational figures in writing the presentation and contributions, and to the efforts of journalists Sarah Najib, who conducted the interviews, edited and wrote the book, and Mohammed Al-Mukhareq, who organized and prepared photos and archival documents. Also, the President of UoB had contributed to the book with an introduction that talked about the late professor’s contributions and his influential roles in the academic field at the National University in which he spent the greater part of his life.
It is worth noting that the late Prof. Shubbar is one of the first Bahrainis to obtain a professorship in chemistry, and he spent more than 50 years of his life in the service of education, as he worked as a teacher at Manama Secondary School for Boys in the seventies of the last century, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in chemical sciences. In addition, he contributed to preparing the curricula, as he held the position of a specialist in science curricula, and as the head of the science advisory committee in the Ministry of Education’s office, in addition to his long years of work at UoB.
Also, Dr. Shubbar earned a master’s degree in Chemical Sciences (Chemistry Curricula and Teaching Methods) from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Chemistry Sciences from the same university. Thousands of teachers graduated from the College of Education under his mentorship, and he received many certificates and awards, published scientific research papers and studies, supervised dozens of master’s theses, and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Educational and Psychological Sciences at UoB.
It is worth noting that the late Professor Dr. Khalil Shubbar has two books: “The Effective Use of Environmental Materials in Teaching Science”, and “The Basics of Teaching”, which were published in 2006.
