In Cooperation with Advance HE UoB Organizes the Developed Women’s Academic Leadership Program with National and Gulf Participation

The Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadershipat the University of Bahrain (UoB) organized the Women’s Academic Leadership Program (She Leads+) in its developed version, which consists of a series of practical workshops and seminars for faculty members, in cooperation with the British Academy of Higher Education (Advance HE), during the month of May 2022.
The Women’s Academic Leadership Program was attended by about seventy participants from the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad, as female members of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated from the Ministry of Education, the Supreme Council for Women, the Education and Training Quality Authority, and local private universities, in addition to the active regional participation of female employees of higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The program offered four training workshops that dealt with the professional aspects and values leadership in higher education holds today, in the field of leadership academic women work in, and the opportunities and challenges facing women leaders in different cultures. In addition, the program presented two practical seminars to address leadership-related situations, which were discussed in the workshops.
Expert Susan O’Brien presented the program as the main speaker from Advance HE, touching on the principle of equal opportunities for both genders in leadership, diversity and inclusion in different work cultures, best practices in leadership, discovering the potentials inherent in leadership skills, and adapting them for self-development and service to the academic and professional community, and the future of leadership in higher education.
At the end of the program, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, affirmed UoB’s great interest in empowering women, which is reflected in all its initiatives, plans and programs. Moreover, he affirmed the University’s pride in its continuous cooperation with Advance HE, which resulted in a number of valuable programs like this one.
For her part, Director of the Excellence in Education and Leadership Skills Unit and Program Coordinator, Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al-Jahromi, confirmed that this program, which was developed after the success it achieved when it was first launched in 2021, locally, reflects UoB’s interest in enhancing women’s skills in higher education, and developing leadership skills locally, regionally and internationally, and it provides a rich platform for exchanging local, regional and international experiences, and providing the best global practices related to leadership skills, with the aim of developing self and professional performance, considering current changes in the fields of education and learning. Moreover, Dr. Al-Jahromi announced the launch of another program in academic leadership for both genders in September 2022.
A number of distinguished international speakers were hosted in the program’s panel discussions, including the Dean of Research at the University of Canterbury in the United Kingdom, Prof. Lynn Revell, Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies at the St. Jean Bilingual Campus at the University of Alberta in Canada, Prof. Samira Al-Attia, Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Sharjah, Prof. Dr. Dima Rashid Jamali, and Director of Programs at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Aisha Al-Shamsi.
From the Kingdom of Bahrain, the program hosted a number of speakers including the Director of Institutional Research and Evaluation at the American University of Bahrain, Dr. Wafaa Al-Mansoori, the Dean of the College of Business Administration at UoB, Prof. Dr. Hatem bin Mahmood Al-Masri, the Director of Quality Assurance and Reliability at Ahlia University, Dr. Israa Al-Dhaen, and the Director The Department of Planning and Educational Projects at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Sheikha Mufeez, member of the Bahrain Business Women’s Association Board, founder and managing director of Beyond Borders Consultancy, Hala Suleiman, Amira Al-Baluchi from the Education and Training Quality Authority, and Associate Professor from the Bahrain Teachers’ College at UoB, Dr. Faten Sa’ad Abdelhamid.
