The Dean of the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS) at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Lina Mohammed Khenji, announced that the college has begun working on filming ten practical experiments for the Microbiology course in the Department of Integrated Sciences, in cooperation with the University’s E-Learning Center, within a framework to support distance learning, and prepare students to carry out practical experiments in an environment similar to the actual laboratory environment.
Dr. Khenji explained that this step shall contribute to achieving the strategic plan of UoB in teaching and learning, by relying on advanced education strategies, praising the effective role played by the Department of Integrated Sciences in keeping pace with technological developments through the digitization of academic courses with the aim of developing e-learning courses, according to the orientations of UoB in employing electronic learning methods and providing an integrated educational system that includes lessons, activities, exercises, evaluation, presentation methods, teaching methods, assessment processes and direct communication between faculty members and students, and presenting them through multiple technological media.
In turn, the head of the Department of Integrated Sciences at the College, Dr. Rabab Abdulwahab, said: “The department is keen to adopt several advanced learning strategies, and to keep abreast of developments in the field of distance learning, explaining that the department seeks to use integrated education as one of the teaching and learning forms in which distance learning is integrated with traditional classroom learning.
Moreover, Dr. Abdulwahab indicated that the Department of Integrated Sciences took a decision to photograph practical experiments due to the increasing number of students registered in the College’s programs, and the College’s desire to give students equal educational opportunities in practical experiences, stressing that recording practical experiments would prepare the student to carry out practical experiments in an environment similar to the environment of actual laboratories, avoiding the danger of some practical experiences as a result of dealing with very minute living organisms.
It is noteworthy that the Anatomy course in the Department of Integrated Sciences provides the practical aspect virtually using the Pearson platform since the first semester of the academic year 2021-2022, in addition to the use of digital technology in teaching a number of its courses, such as: Biochemistry and General Chemistry since 2011.
