In Cooperation with the Delegation of the Russian ICLRC College of Law at UoB Discusses Adherence to the UN Charter in Times of Turmoil

Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), stressed the importance of adopting the United Nations (UN) Charter as a reference in all cases for relations between states, especially in times of turmoil and conflicts, noting that the world is in critical need of this charter in order to preserve international security and stability.
The President of the University spoke on the sideline of a panel discussion on “Upholding the UN Charter in times of turmoil”, organized by the College of Law at UoB in cooperation with the International and Comparative Law Research Center (ICLRC) in the Russian Federation, which is visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain, within the framework of cooperation between the College with specialized institutes and colleges in the Russian Federation, as a number of the College and legal studies’ professors and students attended the panel discussion.
Dr. Salah Mohammed Ahmed, Dean of the College of Law, welcomed the ICLRC team , and urged the students to benefit from the legal and judicial experiences of Dr. Skotnikov in the field of international law and human rights and his experiences in the International Court of Justice. Dr. Al-Ansari, also pointed to the College’s keenness to organize scientific seminars that benefit the audience and students from a legal perspective, which deal with real life important issues and challenges, and the importance of adhering to the laws and rules that protect human beings, including the UN Charter that guarantees the protection of human rights, within the framework of UoB’s keenness to strengthen relations and links of communication with educational and academic institutions at the regional and international levels.
Moreover, the keynote speaker, Counsellor Leonid Skotnikov, Professor of International Law at the Centre, presented an overview of the UN Charter as an instrument of international law, to which UN member states are bound.
He also referred to a number of international relations’ key principles, including the sovereign equality of states to the prohibition of the use of force in international relations. In addition to decolonization and self-determination, compliance with the fundamental principles of the UN, and equality of nations and peoples.
The session was moderated by Dr. Sheikha Lulwa bint Ahmed Al Khalifa, Assistant Professor at the College of Law, and from the side of ICLRC, the panel discussion was attended by Dr. Ekaterina Salugina-Sorokovaya, Director of the Center, and Dr. Sofia Sarenkova, Director of International Cooperation at the Center.
It is worth noting that ICLRC is one of the leading research centers in the Russian Federation, which combines a deep understanding of the Russian state agenda and global trends in the development of law, creates a platform for exchange of views, international dialogue, and participates in the improvement of national jurisdiction.
